Haibun Monday 8-3-26: Journeying

The Journey Home

Fifteen years ago, our house in Norway slowly disappeared into cardboard boxes.

Every cupboard emptied, every photograph wrapped with care, every farewell carrying equal measures of excitement and uncertainty.

Two little girls, only four and five years old, waited for an adventure they could barely imagine.

We boarded a plane with dreams larger than our luggage, leaving behind familiar mountains for volcanic landscapes, another language, and the endless Atlantic.

The Canary Islands became more than a destination. They became the place where our children grew, where friendships blossomed, where tears and laughter shared the same seasons.

Looking back, I realize we were never simply moving south. We were travelling toward the life that had quietly been waiting for us all along.

Suitcases now rest—the ocean whispers, welcome; home changed its address.

Very touching. A childhood memory like that never leaves, and as you say, is re-evaluated later. I caught the mood there.

I can understand the move, but there must be so much in Norway that you miss.

      I call myself international 😊.
When I was five we moved from the UK to Norway. Norwegian mother , Greek father. Sure, somethings i miss from Norway- but not the weather 😆

I know that I would miss Swedish summers when I see the terrible heat waves of Europe…. but winter darkness is a bit hard.

Yes, the heatwaves are getting worse over the years .
Yesterday we had 45°, today 38°. Air-conditioning is my friend 🥵
