Endings and the beginnings

Endings and Beginnings-Friday Challenge

The Door That Never Closed

I stood before an old wooden door.

Its paint had faded.

Its hinges creaked with memories.

Behind it lived every version of myself I had once been.

The frightened child who searched the stars for answers.

The young woman who believed every goodbye was forever.

The mother learning that love grows instead of dividing.

The wife who discovered that strength often arrives disguised as ordinary days.

The dreamer who filled notebooks with words no one had yet read.

For years, I believed I had to keep opening that door.

To relive old mistakes.

To wonder what might have been.

To carry regrets that no longer belonged to me.

Then one quiet evening, I reached for the handle.

Instead of opening it, I gently let it close.

Not with anger.

Not with sadness.

With gratitude.

Everything behind that door had shaped me.

Everything ahead of it was waiting for me.

As I turned around, another door appeared.

It wasn’t old.

It had no handle.

Only light spilling through its edges.

There was no sign telling me what lay beyond.

No promise that the path would be easy.

Only the quiet certainty that standing still was no longer an option.

I smiled.

Sometimes the bravest beginning isn’t taking the first step.

It’s accepting that the last one has already been taken.

The old door never disappeared.

It simply became part of the house I had built from every joy, every sorrow, every lesson, and every dream.

I carried the keys with me, but I no longer needed to unlock the past.

The future was already opening its own door.

And as I crossed the threshold, I finally understood.

An ending never asks us to forget.

It simply teaches us how to begin again.

How I love this. Accepting the past gently and then allowing it to pass quietly :)
