The Whisper

PROMPT #441 = Parataxis and Hypotaxis
Two techniques—parataxis and hypotaxis—can completely change the emotional texture of a scene.
Reena’s Xploration Challenge #441

Parataxis – The Whisper
The room fell silent.
The candle flickered.
A chill crossed my skin.
The curtain stirred.
No window was open.
A feather drifted.
The clock stopped.
A whisper came.
My name.
I turned.
Nobody stood there.
My heart raced.
I smiled.
Hypotaxis – The Whisper
As the room fell into silence and the candle flickered beside me, a chill travelled across my skin while the curtain stirred, even though no window was open. When a single feather drifted gently to the floor and the old clock suddenly stopped, I heard a whisper speak my name. Although nobody stood behind me when I turned, my racing heart slowly gave way to a smile, because some presences do not need to be seen to be felt.
