Some songs don’t just make us want to dance.
They remind us how strong we really are.
For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday theme, I chose Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia.
I’ve always loved dance music, and this song has stayed with me ever since it was released. It combines an unforgettable electronic sound with lyrics that speak of resilience, courage, and refusing to be broken.
Released in 2011, Titanium was written by Sia, David Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort, Afrojack, and Nick van de Wall. Although Sia originally wrote the song as a demo, her vocals were kept on the final recording, creating one of the most recognisable dance anthems of the decade. The song reached the Top 10 in more than twenty countries and became one of David Guetta’s biggest international hits.
The lyric that has always stood out to me is:
You shoot me down, but I won’t fall. I am titanium.”
Those words are about far more than being strong.
They’re about getting back up.
Life has a way of testing us. There are moments when we feel wounded, unheard, or overwhelmed. Yet somehow we keep going. We learn, we heal, and we discover a strength we never knew we had.
Perhaps that’s why this song resonates with me so deeply.
Over the years, music has been there through every chapter of my life—from my rebellious rock years with Rainbow and Dio, to the musicals I sang in as a teenager, to the classical music I paint to, and the house and techno that reminds me of my days as a DJ.
Every genre tells a different story.
Titanium tells one of resilience.
Its message is simple but powerful: no matter what life throws at us, our spirit can remain unbroken.
That’s a message worth carrying with us.
