Through Broken Glass

The war had stolen many things.

Warm meals. Peaceful nights. Laughter that once echoed through the streets.

Now only broken windows remained, framing a world that no longer felt like home.

A small child rested trembling hands upon the sill, searching the horizon for a familiar face, wondering if today would be the day someone returned.

The broken panes let in the cold, but they also let in hope.

For even in the darkest times, a child still believes tomorrow might bring footsteps instead of silence.

Sometimes hope is the only thing that survives the shattered glass.

That line about broken panes letting in both cold and hope you’ve captured something wars try to destroy but never quite manage. A child’s belief that footsteps might return tomorrow instead of silence is its own kind of resistance. Some of the most powerful stories aren’t about surviving the glass, but about looking through it anyway.
