Typing 749 into my photo folder brought up a collection that, at first glance, might seem completely unrelated.
To me, though, every image tells part of the same story.
There is Liam.
Not only as the artist whose voice reached millions, but as someone whose kindness, humour and creativity touched so many lives. Alongside his photos are lyrics from my song The Arrow Warrior, written as both a tribute to Liam and to everyone still seeking truth and justice.
The Hanged Man from the Tarot reminds me that sometimes life forces us to see things from an entirely different perspective. Truth often arrives only after we’re willing to look beyond the obvious.
Then there are the bubbles.
They made me think about the invisible bubbles we all live in. Some people never question the narrative they’ve been given. In Liam’s case, many accepted the simple label that he was “just a junkie.”
I never have, because his problem was with alcohol, and his cause of death was polytrauma, not drugs or alcohol.
To reduce an entire human life to one label ignores the artist, the father, the friend, the son, the young man who drew, wrote songs, laughed, loved, struggled, and inspired countless people around the world. Human beings are always far more complex than a headline.
The final image is a powerful wave.
For me, it represents truth.
A wave can be delayed, but once it gathers enough strength, nothing can stop it. It keeps moving forward until it reaches the shore.
Perhaps that’s why these six images appeared together.
Hope.
Perspective.
Questioning.
Truth.
And the determination to keep going until the wave finally arrives.
