When the World Paused

MLMM Monday Wordle #483

When the World Paused
The heat pressed against the afternoon,
and everyone seemed to rush somewhere,
as though slowing down
had become something to fear.
An elderly man stood quietly by the roadside,
holding a worn cardboard box,
too proud to ask,
yet silently hoping someone might provide
a little kindness.
Most people were lost in their digital worlds,
heads bowed toward glowing screens,
never noticing the eyes that carried quiet concern.
I stopped.
We spoke for only a few minutes,
but sometimes a single conversation
can halt the loneliness
another soul has carried for years.
He told me he had dug gardens all his life,
that honest work had once been enough,
and now he could only imagine
what tomorrow might bring.
Before I left,
I watched a single tear drop from his eye.
It wasn’t gratitude.
It was relief.
A reminder that in a world moving too fast,
the greatest gift we can offer
is simply to notice one another.
