Sunday Poser # 290- Lasting effects of Covid

Has Covid Changed Your Lifestyle?

Yes, absolutely.

Covid changed my life — and my family’s life — in ways I never expected.

My husband started dialysis in January 2020, just before the world changed. From the beginning, I carried a deep fear of him catching Covid, knowing how vulnerable he already was.

Here in Spain, and especially in the Canary Islands, we had more than three months of total lockdown. Schools moved online through Zoom and even national television lessons. Life became very small, very quickly.

For the first years after lockdown, my mental health declined significantly. I developed social anxiety and found it hard to feel safe in the world again.

What saved us — truly saved me — was living on a finca with our two horses. Because of the animals, we were allowed to be outside. The girls could train and ride the horses on our property, and those quiet moments outdoors became our breathing space in a very heavy time.

And there was another unexpected voice that helped me through:

Liam 💜

His live streams from his London apartment became a small light in dark days. Singing, joking, reading stories, being silly and human — bringing comfort without even knowing it. Sometimes healing comes in unexpected forms, and for me, his voice became one of them.

So yes, Covid changed everything.

Even after restrictions eased, things didn’t simply go back to normal. At school, the children wore masks until 2022, and I think many of us still carry invisible echoes of that period.

Some seasons change us deeply. Covid was one of them.

Thank you Maggie for sharing your experience. It was a difficult time for people and those who survived it have learned to be more careful.

I agree, covid changed us all, life as we knew it, it changed, and it never really went back to the way it was even when the restrictions ended…
