Fandango’s Flashback Friday — June 12th

Some Facebook memories hurt.
On June 12th, 2020, I shared these images on Facebook — the day after our beloved mare, Ceniza (Ash) got her wings.
The truth is, June 11th, 2020 changed something in us.

She came into our lives quietly.
An abandoned horse, standing forgotten on a farm.
Our youngest daughter fell in love with her first.

Sometimes souls recognize each other before words are even needed.
We made a deal with the farmer and brought her home.

Hay bales. Sunset feeds. Dusty finca evenings. Healing. Trust.
She arrived guarded.
But little by little, she softened.
And somehow, she healed parts of us too.
I have lost animals before.
But losing Ceniza…
That hurt differently.
Maybe because she had once been abandoned.
Maybe because we fought so hard to give her a safe life.
Maybe because horses carry something ancient in their souls.
Or maybe simply because love is love, no matter how many legs someone has.
Six years later, it still hurts.
But when I look at these photos, I remember this:
For three years, she was no longer forgotten.
She was safe.
She was chosen.
She was deeply loved.
And on the hardest day of all, she did not leave this world alone.

Fly free, beautiful Ceniza.
🪽11 June 2020 — forever loved.
