Crimson’s Creative Challenge #089

The Gatekeeper
He stood at the gate like he owned the countryside.
Hair in his eyes, horns sharp as old opinions, silence heavy with suspicion.
I stopped.
He stared.
I stared back.
Somewhere between us an agreement formed—I would not step closer, and he would not pretend I wasn’t being judged.
“You don’t belong here,”his expression seemed to say.
But then again, perhaps he only recognise something familiar.
The outsiders always do.
The ones who stand slightly apart, watching before trusting, wearing their softness beneath unruly edges.
After a while,he lowered his head and returned to grazing.
Permission granted, perhaps.
Or maybe I had simply passed the test of patience.
With love
