Many have been asking how things are going with my husband, so I thought I would give a little update.

To say it has been a stressful few days would be an understatement.

As many of you know, my husband’s arm fistula suddenly collapsed. For those unfamiliar, a fistula is the lifeline for dialysis treatment. Without it functioning properly, things become very serious, very quickly.

Yesterday, they had to put an emergency line in his neck so he could continue dialysis while they try to figure out what can be done next.

The plan was for him to travel to Las Palmas today so specialists could assess whether the fistula could be repaired. Since he is in a wheelchair and cannot stand or walk, he needed an acompañada to travel with him on the plane and help with his medical needs. My daughter Alex — who is training to become a paramedic — stepped up immediately to go with him.

We were told everything had been arranged.

So this morning began at 4 AM.

Getting him washed, dressed, organised, medications packed, everything ready. We left home at 5 AM, arrived at the airport by 5:50 AM, exhausted but hopeful.

Yet… I had this feeling.

One of those feelings you cannot explain.

I told my husband and Alex, “I don’t think everything is sorted. I’m staying until I know for sure.”

Thank goodness I listened to my intuition.

Ten minutes later, there they were — coming back out.

They couldn’t find him in the system.

No booking.

No priority boarding.

No proper arrangements.

Nothing.

After all that preparation.

After being assured everything had been sorted.

So instead of boarding a plane, we drove straight to the hospital to speak to the nephrologist and try to understand what had gone wrong.

From 6:15 AM until 9:30 AM, we sat there waiting.

Waiting for answers.

Waiting for doctors.

Waiting for someone to explain why a medically fragile patient — in a wheelchair, with a new emergency neck line, needing specialist transport arrangements — somehow slipped through the cracks.

Some people were understanding.

Others seemed annoyed that we were even asking questions.

But here is the thing:

When someone cannot stand, cannot walk, and needs special medical assistance to board a plane, proper paperwork is not optional.

It matters.

This is not about impatience.

This is about safety.

This is about dignity.

This is about making sure vulnerable people are treated like human beings and not just another number in a system.

So now, instead of one planned journey, it looks like next week will mean daily travelling back and forth.

And honestly?

Right now, I am exhausted.

Frustrated.

Angry.

Worried.

And very, very tired.

But I also know this:

We keep going.

Because when you love someone, you fight for them.

Even when the system makes everything harder than it needs to be.

Thank you to everyone who has messaged, checked in, prayed, and sent love. It means more than you know.

Please keep my husband in your thoughts as we navigate the next steps.

One day at a time.

✨ Faith. Hope. Healing. ✨

With love
