The Negotiation
The locust sat proudly atop the dragon’s head like a king surveying his kingdom.
The bearded dragon stayed perfectly still, claws curled around the warm branch, eyes half narrowed in what could only be described as ancient patience.
“You know,” the locust chirped, antenna twitching, “from up here, I feel unstoppable.”
No response.
“Perhaps,” the locust continued, “ we should form an alliance. You provide transport, I provide wisdom.”
Still nothing.
The dragon blinked once. Slowly.
Below them, the human lifted a phone.
“Aww,” she whispered. “They’re friends.”
The dragon sighed inwardly.
Five more seconds. Then lunch.
