Share Your World 25th May 2026

Here are this week’s questions and my answers

  1. It’s a Bank Holiday here in the UK, so a lot of us don’t have to go to work. Are you working today?

No.

I’m on a disability pension, so my days look a little different these days.

  • 2. What do you like to do on your days off (not holiday/vacation)?

Listen to music. Go to the beach. Spend time by the swimming pool.

Simple things that bring a little peace.

  • 3. Have you booked a holiday/vacation this year?

No.

My husband is currently on the transplant list for a new kidney, so life feels a little too uncertain to plan far ahead right now.

Maybe my daughters will take a trip to Norway this year. Time will show.

  • 4. Have you ever had a staycation (a holiday in your own country)?

Many times.

When we lived in Norway, we had a camping caravan and travelled to many places. Some of the best memories are often the simple ones, closer to home.

Gratitude

I’m grateful for quiet moments. For music that lifts the soul. For beaches, sunlight, and memories of family adventures.

And most of all, for hope — even when life asks for patience.

With love

      Yes, hope so too.
He’s been 6 years on dialysis, and his body is tired…

        I am so sorry.
A work colleague was unwell and her doctor dismissed it as bad diet and needing to lose weight. Working for the bank, there was a medical package and she went through them as she was getting worse. Both of her kidneys were failing and once they stabilized her, the company arranged a private nurse for dialysis in her home on a portable machine. They found a match within a few months, and the company saw to everything. She is the first to say how lucky she was, and kept in touch with her ‘kidney twin’. Her donor provided so many people with a better quality of life at the loss of theirs. Both Hubby and I are on the donor register.

It’s so easy to dismiss health issues, sadly.

Happy she got a donor kidney so fast.

Hubby tried the home dialysis last year, but it was to many problems, and he had to go back to the hospital 3 days a week for dialysis.

A neighbour in the next road was diagnosed last year after months of dithering by the NHS and has to have it 3 times a week at a hospital. His wife doesn’t drive, and they refused to let her go with him in the hospital transport provided. They expected her to get a taxi (£45 + each way) or the bus (4 hours if lucky). She is his full time carer as he also has the beginnings of dementia, so she just got in and said she’d take it up at the other end. She goes with him each time now. He seems to be doing well, but he’s in his late 70s.

        So sad…

It’s like this down here too.
Before the accident , he drove to dialysis himself, wasn’t qualified for transport.

After the accident he got transport . The first 7 months on a carrier , since he couldn’t sit in a wheelchair.

But we are not allowed to go with the transport if he needs a translator when he has other appointments at the hospital 🙄.
