PROMPT #431
PROMPT #431This week, we are taking a rather broad look at AGE-ING, and the relationship between generations. Whether you see yourself as young, old or somewhere in between, examine your relationship with those on the other side and base your piece on that.

In Between

I stand somewhere in the middle now.
Old enough to understand why my parents worried, young enough to still call them when life feels uncertain.
I have children of my own—five lives that once fit into the crook of my arm, now carrying opinions, responsibilities, and dreams I can no longer protect from the world.
And then came grandchildren.
Tiny reminders that time does not disappear—it multiplies.
I used to think age arrived suddenly, announced by wisdom or sensible shoes.
Instead, it sneaks in quietly.
One morning you realize the music of your youth is now called classic, your children explain technology to you, and your knees have become unexpectedly opinionated.
Still…
I do not feel old.
Not really.
I feel… in between.
A bridge between stories.
I remember a slower world—phones attached to walls, photo albums heavy in the hand, letters that took days to arrive.
Yet I sit in the same world where grandchildren swipe screens before they can read.
Sometimes I ache for what was.
Sometimes I marvel at what is.
And somewhere between the generations, I have learned this:
Aging is not losing youth.
It is gathering seasons.
Keeping a hand stretched backward in memory while reaching forward in love.
Though, if anyone asks—
I’m still approximately 29-ish.

With love
