This week Bart says for his prompt:

https://wp.me/p4Wo4X-21b

This week let’s write a poem with the words art, destroy and laugh in it. This is another of those prompts where I randomly choose three words from a list of the top 1000 words in the English language plus a few of my favorites. Post your poems in the comments below.

Beautiful Ruins

They said art
was meant to last.

But I have watched storms rewrite coastlines,
watched time soften sharp edges, watched memory blur the faces I swore I would never forget.

Some things arrive only to destroy the person we were before.

A heartbreak.
A truth.
A season that stayed too long.

Still—

somewhere between the wreckage,
someone begins to laugh,
not because nothing hurt,
but because survival sometimes sounds like joy returning carefully.

And perhaps
that too
is art—

the strange human way we
break,
bend,
and somehow still make beauty from the pieces.
