Telephone — Lady Gaga ft. Beyoncé (2010)
Sometimes a song becomes bigger than music.
It becomes a moment.
For this week’s communication device theme, I chose Telephone by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé — a song impossible to ignore once it enters the room.
At first listen, it feels playful, dramatic, and unapologetically pop.
But beneath the beat and chaos, there is another message quietly ringing through the noise.
Overwhelm.
Pressure.
The feeling of being constantly “on.”
The song captures that moment when life becomes too loud — when expectations, demands, and endless communication become exhausting.
“Stop callin’, stop callin’, I don’t wanna think anymore…”
And honestly? In today’s world of notifications, messages, social media, and constant availability, it feels even more relatable now than when it was released.
Telephone was written by Lady Gaga together with Rodney Jerkins, LaShawn Daniels, Lazonate Franklin, and Beyoncé herself. Interestingly, Gaga originally wrote the song for Britney Spears, but it eventually found its home as the unforgettable collaboration we know today.
The chemistry between Gaga and Beyoncé helped turn the song into a worldwide success. It reached #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and climbed all the way to #1 in the UK, as well as topping charts across several European countries. It went on to become one of the best-selling songs of 2010, selling millions of copies worldwide.
And let’s be honest — the music video deserves legendary status all on its own. Dramatic, cinematic, slightly chaotic, and unforgettable.
Some songs fade with time.
Others keep ringing.
