Votive

A votive candle does not ask to be noticed.

It burns quietly.

Small, steady, soft against the dark.

A whisper of hope in places where words have stopped working.

People light them for prayers. For memories. For grief too heavy to carry alone.

For miracles still waiting to arrive.

I think we leave little votives throughout our lives without realizing.

A message: “Thinking of you.”

A hand resting gently on someone’s shoulder.

Showing up when another soul can barely stand.

Tiny flames of kindness.

Proof that even in difficult seasons, light still remembers how to exist.

And maybe love itself is a votive.

Still burning for someone long after they are gone.

Quiet.

Steady.

Refusing to surrender to the dark.
