The word of the day is Cattle
In response to Alice DeForest word prompt: https://wp.me/s9Zf6z-cattle
Cattle

A word rooted in earth, fields, survival, and old rhythms of rural life.
Long before cities swallowed silence, cattle moved slowly through open landscapes, following seasons, weather, and instinct.
They fed families. Worked the land. Became part of the heartbeat of farming communities.
But there is also something symbolic within the word.
The herd.
How easily humans drift into following crowds. Moving together without questioning where the path leads.
Yet cattle are not foolish creatures.
They recognize voices. Protect their young. Feel fear, comfort, and calm.
Perhaps the real lesson is not about the herd— but awareness
To know when you are being led. To know when to pause. To know when your soul needs open land instead of fences.
Out here on the islands, you still feel traces of older ways of living.
Dusty roads. Goats and cattle. The scent of earth after rare rain. A slower understanding of life.
Maybe that is why the word feels ancient.
Not just livestock— but a reminder that humans, too, once lived closer to nature than machines.
