In response to Linda Hill’s weekly Prompt: https://wp.me/p2CQXv-59G

Contrast is how we notice life at all.
Light beside shadow.
Silence after noise.
Winter remembered
while standing in sunlight.
I think sometimes
we only understand joy
because we have known sorrow first.
The sea here
looks bluer
after days of calima dust.
Coffee tastes better
after exhaustion.
Love feels louder
after loneliness.
Even the sky
changes personality
through contrast.
Norway taught me
dark afternoons, frozen lakes,silver winters.
Fuerteventura taught me
heat shimmering on roads,
salt air,
volcanic earth,
light that refuses to leave quietly.
Two completely different worlds
living inside the same woman.
And maybe people are made of contrast too.
Softness and strength.
Faith and doubt.
Healing and grief
sharing the same heartbeat.
Sometimes I write about beauty.
Sometimes I write about injustice.
Sometimes both arrive together.
Because life is rarely one thing.
The stars themselves
exist through contrast—
burning against endless dark.
And perhaps
that is what makes them visible.
Not despite the darkness.
Because of it.
