Boot

A simple word
with heavy footsteps.

A boot can protect.
Carry.
March.
Kick.
Leave.

It has walked through wars,
crossed muddy fields,
stood beside workers,
wanderers,
soldiers,
and souls trying
to survive another winter.

Sometimes life
boots us forward
before we are ready.

Throws us
out of comfort,
out of illusions,
out of places
we thought would last forever.

And still—
we keep walking.

Scuffed by experience.
Worn by grief.
Stronger at the sole
than we realize.

Maybe healing
is not barefoot softness
all the time.

Maybe sometimes
it sounds like heavy boots
returning home
after surviving the storm.
