In response to Linda Hill’s weekly Prompt: https://wp.me/p2CQXv-59s

Neat
Everything in its place. Lines straight, edges clean, no loose ends, no mess.
There’s something comforting about neatness—like the world makes sense when things are arranged just right.
But life isn’t neat.
Thoughts spill. Feelings don’t line up in tidy rows. Memories blur at the edges and refuse to stay where we put them.
I’ve tried to keep things neat before—to organise emotions, to file away pain, to label everything so it felt manageable.
It worked… for a while.
Until something shifted, and everything I had neatly tucked away found its way back out.
Maybe neat is not the goal.
Maybe real is.
Because real life is layered, uneven, sometimes chaotic—but also honest.
And there’s a kind of beauty in things not being perfect.
In the soft mess of living.
In the spaces between what we planned and what actually became.
So maybe I don’t need everything to be neat.
Maybe I just need it to be true.
