Walpurgis Night — When the Veil Thins

30 April carries old fire in its bones.

Walpurgis Night, Beltane Eve, Valborgsmesse — different names, same ancient flicker. Across northern Europe, bonfires were lit to drive away darkness, protect the land, and welcome May.

In Norway, we called it Valborgsmesse — the night the witches were said to fly out and gather.

A night of fire. A night of folklore. A night when the veil grows thin, like Halloween’s springtime sister.

Beltane opens the bright half of the year, yet its doorway is shadowed with mystery. Between smoke and blossom, winter and summer, spirit and flesh — something unseen walks close.

So tonight, light a candle. Listen to the wind. The old stories are still breathing.
