In response to Jim’s Sunday lyrics: https://wp.me/p8EzVZ-Ldp

This week’s theme is to choose a song that represents Earth Day.
My choice is Waiting on the World to Change — but not the original version.
I chose Liam Payne’s cover, which he performed in support of UNICEF.
That makes the message feel even more grounded in reality.
The song itself, written by John Mayer, is about something many of us recognize — the feeling of seeing what’s wrong in the world, but not knowing how to change it. It speaks about distance, frustration, and the sense that the system is bigger than the individual.
“So we keep on waiting… waiting on the world to change…”
And that’s where it connects to Earth Day.
Because for years, we’ve been aware. We’ve seen what’s happening — to the planet, to people, to the future.
And still… we wait.
Liam’s version carries a different weight. There’s a sincerity in his voice, especially knowing it was done in support of children and global care. It feels less like resignation — and more like a quiet question:
How long do we keep waiting?
Earth Day isn’t just about appreciating nature. It’s about responsibility. About shifting from awareness into action.
Maybe the message of this song, in this context, becomes something else:
Not that we are waiting for the world to change —but that the world is waiting for us.
Me and all my friends
We′re all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing, and
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that′s going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
chorus
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
It's hard to be persistent
When we′re standing at a distance
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
verse
Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would′ve never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got'
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want
chorus
That′s why we're waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
It′s not that we don't care
We just know that the fight ain′t fair
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
And we're still waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
outro
Now we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
We're waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
