Trench
A trench
is carved deep.
Cut into the earth—
a line that holds,
that shelters,
that separates.
It can protect.
It can confine.
A place to stand
when the world feels too much.
We all have trenches—places we retreat to,
where we gather strength,
where we wait
for the storm to pass.
But staying too long
in the trench
can make the sky
feel distant.
I have learned
that trenches
are not meant
to be homes.
They are pauses.
Moments of survival.
And when the time comes,
we must climb out—slowly
,carefully—
and remember
there is still
a whole world
above.
