In response to Ragtag Daily Prompt: https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2026/04/17/rag-tag-daily-prompt-3/

They taught us
to count.
To measure worth
in numbers—
in intake,
in output,
in what is allowed
and what is not.
Calories.
As if life
could be reduced
to units.
But we are not machines.
We are not equations
to be balanced
into perfection.
A calorie
is energy—
nothing more,
nothing less.
Fuel
for movement.
For breath.
For living.
But somewhere
along the way—
it became control.
A quiet pressure
to take up less space.
To consume less.
To be less.
And yet—
we are made of energy.
Of fire.
Of pulse.
Of life that refuses
to be minimized.
What if
we stopped counting what we consume…
and started honoring what we need?
Not just food—
but joy.
Rest.
Expression.
Connection.
Because the body knows.
You were never meant to shrink
into numbers.
You were meant
to live fully—
unmeasured,
unapologetic,
alive.
