Dedra Kane Walks at Dusk

They say Dedra Kane
only appears
when the light turns green-gold,
that hour when shadows
forget their place.

Small bells in her pockets,
or maybe just laughter
caught in the wind—
no one agrees.

She walks the edge
of ordinary things:
between doorway and dream,
between coin and wish,
between what was promised
and what was never meant to be found.

Some swear she guards a treasure.
Others say she is the treasure—
a flicker of luck
you almost catch
before it slips.

If you hear music
where there is none,
or find something lost
returning without reason—

that might be her.

Dedra Kane,
heels clicking softly
on invisible roads,
smiling like she knows
which endings are real
and which are only stories
we tell to keep believing.

Your poem is satisfyingly supernatural, Maggie, and gave me the chills. My kind of St Patrick’s Day poem.
