Smorgasbord
A beautiful word from the North.
In Norway and Sweden it means a table full of food, a buffet where many small dishes are placed side by side. Fish, bread, potatoes, salads, cheeses — each plate telling its own little story.
No single dish dominates.
Instead, it is the variety that makes the table special.
Life sometimes feels like a smorgasbord too.
Different experiences placed next to each other — joy beside sorrow, calm beside chaos, laughter beside quiet reflection.
Over the years my life has become its own kind of smorgasbord.
Memories from snowy Norwegian winters.
The volcanic landscapes of Fuerteventura.
Music, writing, family, storms, healing, and unexpected lessons.
Some experiences are sweet.
Some are bitter.
Some are nourishing in ways we only understand later.
Yet when we step back and look at the whole table, we see something remarkable.
A rich life.
Not made from one single flavor, but from many.
Perhaps that is the true meaning of a smorgasbord.
Not just food on a table.
But the many pieces that together create the feast of a life well lived.
