Shadow Work
We blame shadows
for what we fear.
Yet a shadow is only
light interrupted—
a soft refusal
to burn endlessly.
Trees give them freely
to travelers in summer.
Walls lean them gently
across the afternoon.
Even the moon
borrows shadow
to remind us
the sky is not empty.
I have walked
beside my own shadow
for years.
It does not chase me.
It does not accuse.
It simply keeps pace,
waiting patiently
for the moments
when the sun grows
too bright.
