First-Hand
There are things we read about.
Things we hear about.
Stories told from a safe distance.
And then there are things we know first-hand.
Floodwater entering the hall.
Mud beneath bare feet.
Buckets filling under a leaking roof.
The quiet teamwork of daughters moving through the house without many words.
No article or report can truly explain those moments.
First-hand experience writes itself into the body.
You learn how quickly water finds its path.
How strong adrenaline can be when action is needed.
How calm appears when panic would be useless.
But first-hand knowledge is not always about crisis.
It is also about love.
Holding a husband’s hand through years of illness.
Understanding resilience not as a theory, but as daily practice.
Learning that strength often arrives quietly, disguised as ordinary endurance.
First-hand life lessons rarely arrive gently.
Yet they leave something behind that second-hand stories never can:
Wisdom.
And the quiet understanding that some truths can only be learned by living them.
