Daily Prompt — 1870

I actually don’t have a middle name.

Just my nickname — Maggie.

And that name means a lot to me, because it came from my father.

But Maggie wasn’t his first nickname for me. Not at all.

When I was little, he used to call me “porridge.”

Yes… porridge.

Apparently I loved food so much as a child that he thought the name suited me perfectly. Every time there was food involved, I was happily there. So “porridge” it was.

Thankfully, that nickname didn’t follow me into adulthood.

Somewhere along the way it became Maggie, and that one stayed.

It’s funny how nicknames work. Sometimes they tell little stories about who we were as children, and who loved us enough to give us those names.

So even if it’s not written on any official documents, Maggie is the name that carries meaning for me.

Because it came from my father.

And that makes it special.
