In response to Di’s daily Prompt:
https://wp.me/p3RSgb-wbT

I invited a mate over,
planning a simple meal
and a calm conversation.

Then came the meat question: “How much should I cook?”

Which led immediately to the mass question: “Why is there suddenly enough food
to feed a small village?”

Somewhere between chopping, stirring,
and dramatically over-seasoning,
I realised this is how I show love:

I don’t do “just enough.”
I do “in case the whole neighbourhood arrives.”

So my mate laughed,
I served a plate the size of a map,
and we agreed the truth:

Friendship is measured in time,
but also occasionally in mass .

Thanks for joining in again Maggie!
I always cooked more than was needed at Christmas in the hope of left overs the next day with bubble and squeak (still do actually on Christmas Day). Ex partner and his two sons had good appetites, so on a Sunday, I would cook at least 30 roast potatoes to go with the chicken and everything else. It took me years to adapt to cooking for two when Hubby and I got together. Now, what would feed one of us then is sufficient for us both as our appetites and tastes have changed, though I have to admit, cost has had a lot to do with it and I don’t buy so much meat now and rarely cook a roast dinner unless it’s Christmas or we have visitors , though the latter is extremely unlikely.
