The Drawer of Small Things
The drawers hold what the world forgets.
Receipts with fading ink,
letters that never reached their destination,
notes folded into quiet squares of memory.
Behind the glass, a pumpkin sits
like a small planet—
green, scarred, stubbornly alive
in a room made for the past.
The papers pinned above it
whisper of rules, inventories,
lives once measured in careful handwriting.
But time has loosened their order.
A drawer left open,
a document slipping forward,
a story waiting to be remembered.
I catch my reflection in the window—
half visitor, half ghost—
wondering which drawer
my own forgotten moments
might be filed inside.
Somewhere between the jars,
the paper, and the dust,
history is still breathing.
