In response to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge:

Default
A pre-installed setting.
A system response.
The automatic configuration you didn’t consciously choose.
Factory settings.
Somewhere in early childhood, my operating system was programmed:
• Prioritize others.
• Stay quiet.
• Endure.
• Don’t overload the system with emotion.
No user consent required.
When crisis hits — floodwater in the hall, roof leaking, husband bedridden for three years — the system doesn’t freeze.
It executes.
Run Protocol: Stabilize.
Run Protocol: Protect.
Run Protocol: Contain.
Panic.exe never launches.
Collapse.dll remains disabled.
That is the thing about long-term pressure.
It rewrites your firmware.
Resilience becomes background processing.
Strength runs on auto-start.
Self-sacrifice operates silently in the system tray.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Default settings are not permanent architecture.
They are editable.
You can enter Safe Mode.
Access Advanced Settings.
Uninstall inherited scripts.
This week I noticed something:
My nervous system no longer spikes when water rises.
It calculates.
It assesses.
It redirects flow.
That is not weakness.
That is adaptive coding.
But I am updating now.
New configuration:
• Self-care enabled.
• Ask for support — active.
• Emotional bandwidth expanded.
• Softness no longer flagged as system error.
Default is simply the path the system follows when no conscious choice is made.
And I am done living on autopilot.
Manual override engaged.
