My favorite pair of shoes aren’t fancy.
They’re not heels, not designer, not even particularly glamorous.

They’re simple trainers — soft, comfortable, easy to slip into when life doesn’t wait.

They’ve carried me all over this island.
Through supermarket aisles and café terraces.
Into hospitals and out again.
Across volcanic paths and seaside promenades.
Into quiet moments and difficult ones.

These shoes have walked beside wheelchairs.
They’ve stood in waiting rooms.
They’ve paced while I’ve worried.
They’ve wandered through markets, breathing in spices and sea air.

They’ve taken me to restaurants where we celebrate small victories.
To pharmacies.
To school meetings.
To sunset views that remind me to keep going.

They are not just shoes.
They are witnesses.

They know the rhythm of my days — the fast ones, the heavy ones, the hopeful ones.

If shoes could talk, mine would say:
You didn’t stop. You kept walking.

And sometimes, that’s the biggest journey of all.
