Vinyl

Vinyl
doesn’t rush.
It asks you to lift it carefully,
to place it gently,
to lower the needle with intention.
You can’t skip too fast.
You can’t shuffle restlessly.
You listen—
side A, then side B.
Oh, the music we played on vinyl.
The slight crackle before the song begins.
The warmth that feels different
from streaming,
from instant access.
Last year, our youngest bought
a record player for her dad—
vintage in appearance,
modern in technology.
Old soul, new wiring.
And when it spins,
time softens.
Songs become rooms you step back into.
Memories surface without buffering.
Even silence between tracks
feels earned.
Vinyl teaches patience.
It makes music tangible again.
Something you hold,
turn over,
care for.
And maybe that’s why it still matters—
because some things
are meant to be heard slowly.
