Brusque

Brusque sounds sharp.

Clipped words.
No cushioning.
No sugar-coating.

But sometimes brusque
is simply tired of explaining.

There are days when softness
costs too much.
When politeness feels like
an unpaid job.

Brusque is the boundary
without apology.
The answer that doesn’t come
wrapped in comfort.

It isn’t unkind.
It’s efficient.

It says what needs saying
without rehearsing it
to make everyone else feel safe.

I’ve been called brusque
when I stopped over-smiling.
When I chose clarity
over being liked.

Maybe brusque
is just directness
without decoration.

And maybe that’s not a flaw.

I don’t think it is a flaw, Maggie, sometimes brusque is what is needed!

You are so right about that Carol. But it not so easy letting go of old patterns always , like the “good girl syndrome “.
