What were your parents doing at your age?
Dailyprompt-1847

At my age, my mother was working in an old people’s home.
Long shifts. Quiet strength. The kind of work that doesn’t make headlines but holds the world together.
She cared for others with patience and steadiness.

My father was working as a mechanic and painter.
But that description doesn’t quite capture it.
Yes, he fixed cars.
Yes, he mixed paint.
But he also experimented. He played with colours the way some people play with music. He tested shades, adjusted tones, layered depth until something ordinary became something extraordinary.
I still remember watching him work — the concentration, the smell of paint, the quiet satisfaction when it was just right.
He once painted this fierce creature freehand on a car — not traced, not copied. Just imagination meeting metal. Art didn’t hang on our walls. It drove down the road.
Looking back, I realise something.
Creativity didn’t start with me.
It runs in my blood.
In my mother’s quiet compassion.
In my father’s fearless brushstrokes.
Sometimes we don’t see the inheritance while we’re living it.
But time has a way of revealing where we come from.
