Today’s writing exercise is: “Describe an object using only the sense of taste”.

Taste
It begins sharp.
Metallic, almost.
Like fear touching the tongue.
Then salt arrives—
old salt,
the kind that has lived in skin and tears,
not the neat kind from a shaker.
There’s bitterness underneath,
deep and stubborn,
lingering longer than expected,
coating the mouth with memory.
But if I stay with it—
really stay—
there’s a quiet warmth at the back,
a hint of something human,
something endured.
It does not disappear when swallowed.
It stays.
An aftertaste of survival.
