The Weight of What We Cannot See

From stars unspooling in velvet dark
to the shoes pressed flat against the ground,
matter holds its place—
mass claiming space,
gravity keeping promises.

Light thinks it travels straight,
until it learns humility.
Passing a galaxy,
it bends—
a bow to weight,
a curve around presence.
Space itself leans in.

Galaxies spin too fast at the edges,
as if clasped by invisible hands.
Stars refuse to fly apart.
Something unseen
keeps the rhythm—
a dark companion humming beneath the glow.

We call it dark matter,
not because it is evil,
but because it does not announce itself.
It leaves no footprints,
only patterns:
the tilt of light,
the speed of stars,
the architecture of becoming.

Even the universe remembers.
In the oldest light—
the cosmic microwave whisper—
there are ripples,
cooler here, warmer there,
tiny tremors that once decided
where galaxies would gather,
where worlds would bloom.

Everything visible
rests on something hidden.
Every orbit trusts an absence.
Every certainty is held
by what we cannot touch.

Perhaps this is the lesson gravity teaches best:
that meaning does not require visibility,
that power can be silent,
that the unseen
is not empty—
it is essential.
