Prompt
A prompt for a prompt—
how very writerly.
To prompt,
or not to prompt—
that seems to be the question.
Sometimes a prompt is a nudge,
a gentle tap on the shoulder
that says, start here.
Other times it’s permission—
to stop thinking so hard
and just let the words move.
And sometimes,
the prompt becomes the distraction,
while the real story waits patiently
off to the side,
arms crossed,
ready when I am.
So today, I take the prompt
as an invitation,
not an instruction.
Because whether prompted or not,
the words always know
how to find their way out.
