Fierce

Fierce doesn’t always roar.

Sometimes it steadies the breath
when everything shakes.
Sometimes it says no
without raising its voice.

I used to think fierce meant sharp edges,
raised fists,
burning bridges.

Now I know better.

Fierce is staying.
Fierce is telling the truth
when silence would be easier.
Fierce is choosing yourself
without needing permission.

It’s the strength that grows
after being tested.
The fire that learns how to warm
instead of destroy.

I carry my fierceness differently now—
not as armor,
but as spine.
