Monolithic

Monolithic

When I think of monolithic,
I don’t think of power for its own sake.
I think of weight.
Of time pressed into form.

In Norway, the word has a body:
the Monolith in Vigeland Monolith.
I stood there once,
with my husband,
looking up.

One single stone,
yet carved with hundreds of human figures—
bodies climbing, clinging, lifting, falling.
Individual lives,
bound into one towering presence.

That is what monolithic truly is.
Not something cold or distant,
but something immense
made of many stories.

It reminds me that nothing great
is ever truly singular.
Even the most solid forms
are shaped by hands,
by effort,
by lives layered upon lives.

Monolithic
is not just size.
It is endurance.
It is memory standing upright.

And when you stand beneath it,
you don’t feel small—
you feel connected.

Hey, I’ve been to Vigeland! Cold and crisp May morning in Oslo, an unexpected delight. Thanks for sharing–beautiful image, beautiful words.
