Counterfeit

Counterfeit is something that looks real
but isn’t.

It copies the surface,
the shape,
the shine—
yet lacks the weight of truth beneath it.

I’ve learned that counterfeit isn’t only about money.
It appears in smiles without sincerity,
promises without intention,
stories told often enough to sound convincing.

The hardest part is that counterfeit can fool us—
at first.
Until something doesn’t add up.
Until the feeling is off.
Until the truth quietly insists on being known.

Authenticity doesn’t shout.
It doesn’t need polish or performance.
It holds steady, even when imperfect.

Once you’ve recognised the real thing,
the counterfeit loses its power.
