🎶 Angie — Angie
by The Rolling Stones (1973)
This week’s music theme invites us to find a song with a girl’s or boy’s name in the title, and my choice is “Angie” by The Rolling Stones.
I grew up listening to the Stones. My father has always been a huge fan, so their music was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Angie is one of those songs that feels woven into memory — gentle, emotional, and timeless.
Released in 1973 as the lead single from the album Goats Head Soup, Angie became a number-one hit in the US and reached No. 5 in the UK. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and it stands out as a tender ballad in a catalogue best known for swagger and rock edge.
Over the years, there’s been much speculation about who “Angie” was — a lover, a muse, even David Bowie’s wife — but the band has said the name was symbolic rather than literal. To me, the song feels like a farewell to a relationship that still carries love, even as it’s slipping away.

Why I love this song
It’s soft where the Stones are often rough
It holds nostalgia and emotional honesty
It connects me to my father and my early love of music
A short lyric excerpt
“Angie, Angie, when will those clouds all disappear?”
(Lyrics by Mick Jagger & Keith Richards © 1973 — excerpt shared for discussion purposes.)
This song reminds me how music travels through generations — how a father’s favorite band can become part of a child’s emotional landscape, and how a simple name in a song can hold decades of meaning.
I’m looking forward to listening to everyone else’s picks and discovering new stories through music. 🎶
