After writing about the Hessdalen lights yesterday, my mind drifted to another place connected to my childhood in Norway — a place not far from where we lived.
Espevær, out on Bømlo.
Home of the famous UFO-ringen.

From a local newspaper in 1975

These photos are from there — the little signs pointing the way, the alien-face stone, and of course the strange, perfect oval burned into the landscape like something pressed down from the sky.

I was there in 2003 on a Sunday boat trip, and even then… it didn’t feel man-made.
Not in the slightest.

What We Know about the UFO-Ring

Discovered: 7 October 1975 by mushroom gatherers
Shape: Oval
Size: 26 meters long, 14 meters wide, 63 meters in circumference
Track width: 30 cm
Indented: 5–10 cm into the ground

For something so heavy to press the earth down like that — and in a perfect, smooth oval — the locals were convinced it had to be something weighing 50–60 tons.

And honestly… standing there, looking at that flawless ring, it’s easy to understand why.

Theories Came, but None Fit

In 1976, a professor suggested it might be caused by a fungus draining moisture from the soil…
But no fungi were ever found.

Another theory was that rabbits made it during a mating ritual…
But there are no rabbits on Espevær.

So people returned to the only explanation that matched the magnitude of the imprint:
Something large landed there.
And left without a trace.

The mystery has never been solved.
Not then, not now.

Strange Events That Night

Locals reported odd things on the same October night in 1975:

🌟 Several boats noted strange lights over Espevær in their logbooks
🌟 Fuses blew in nearby houses
🌟 And the dog “Tobby,” normally calm, barked nonstop for 90 minutes

A dog knows when something is off.
Animals sense energy long before humans do.

My Own Memory of the Place

When I saw it with my own eyes, I felt the same thing I felt reading about the Hessdalen lights as a young girl —
a quiet knowing in my chest, like the universe opening a small door and whispering:

“You are not alone. You have never been alone.”

Maybe that’s why I was drawn to astrology.
Why the sky has always been my compass.
Why looking up feels like coming home.
