DailyPrompt—2137

What technology would you be better off without, why?

This one actually made me pause… because we live in a world where everything is becoming “smart” — smart houses, smart fridges, smart doors, smart lightbulbs that can’t decide if they want to be blue or warm white unless you whisper the right command, lol.

And honestly?
I don’t want any of it.

Living here on the islands has taught me something precious:
Simplicity is underrated.
We live mostly on solar power, with a generator as backup. The sun decides the rhythm of our home more than any app ever could — and I actually love that. It keeps us present, grounded, and aware of the energy we use.

Smart houses might impress people, but they don’t impress me.
Why let a machine control everything when we have a mind, intuition, and common sense of our own?
Maybe that makes me old-fashioned — but at least I’m connected to my environment, not controlled by it.

And now for the fun part…

PS:
My daughters learned very quickly that you absolutely cannot play PlayStation after 6 p.m. on solar power.
If you try?
Instant blackout.
No electricity.
Game over — literally.
We still laugh about it.
Island life teaches you things no “smart home” ever will 😂☀️

Maggie, this is such a refreshing perspective!
Your words remind us that control is not always convenience and smart isn’t always better.
There’s a beauty in letting the sun, the environment, and life itself set the rhythm — a rhythm that teaches patience, presence, and perspective.
Your daughters’ blackout lesson? Pure gold.
Island life has wisdom no gadget can ever replicate, and reading this makes me pause, breathe, and appreciate simplicity in a world addicted to “smart.”
