Daily prompt-2081

What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?

Justice.

When I was younger, I used to believe that justice was automatic. That if something terrible happened, the truth would rise to the surface, and the system would take care of it. Courts, police, the media — all of them seemed like guardians who would make sure the world was fair, or at least try to.

But Liam’s story shattered that belief for me.

Yes, we all know that Argentina doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to justice. But what has broken me even more is how the media has treated him. From the age of 14, Liam was exploited, turned into a headline, lies, twisted into narratives that had little to do with the person he really was. And now, even in death, that hasn’t stopped. The cruelty continues a year on — his memory bent into stories that serve clicks, optics, and agendas instead of truth.

I’ve had to accept a difficult shift: justice doesn’t always come from institutions. Sometimes it has to be demanded, fought for, pieced together from scraps, and carried by ordinary people who refuse to let silence win. That’s why I write. That’s why I keep going even when I’m told to let it rest.

So yes, I’ve changed my mind about justice. It isn’t a promise handed down by authority — it’s a choice we make every day to hold the line for what is true.
