“Some people don’t get to live soft lives.
We get handed chaos, grief, betrayal, and we have to learn how to bloom anyway.
We become the ones who know how to carry others when their world falls apart, because we remember what it was like when no one showed up for us.”
This appeared in my feed today — on yet another shit day — and it hit me deep.
Because it’s true. Some of us don’t get the soft life. We’re dealt storm after storm, grief after grief, betrayal after betrayal. And instead of being allowed to rest, we’re forced to transform. Again and again.
But I have to be honest: I’m so tired of transformation.
Tired of being handed “lessons.”
Tired of chaos when all I want is peace.
Tired of carrying more weight than one heart should.
With my husband now facing amputation, and with my fight for Justice for Liam, this quote felt like it was written for me. Liam didn’t get the soft life either — he knew the sting of being treated like less than human, and the weight of carrying more than most people ever see. He was forced to transform in ways few understood.
That’s why I keep going, even when I’m exhausted. Because I remember what it’s like when no one shows up. And I won’t let that be Liam’s story.
Yes, I’ve learned to bloom in impossible soil. Yes, I’ve become someone who knows how to hold others when their world falls apart. But even warriors long for rest. Even the strongest hearts need gentleness.
Today, I don’t want to rise. I just want to be — raw, tired, human. And maybe that’s okay too.
For Liam. For truth. For all of us who didn’t get the soft life.
