Dear Liam 💜,

Today has been a real shit day 😪.

For the past couple of days, the rental car kept signalling low pressure in a tire, but we couldn’t find anything wrong. Today, the tire finally punctured. That part is okay — these things happen. But what happened next was not okay.

We did everything right: took photos, sent them to the company, and asked for a truck to come and change the car. But when they realized we live a little remote, on a public dirt road, they tried to charge me 900€. The insurance didn’t cover it, they said.

Thankfully, my friend’s husband helped me put some foam in the tire so we could manage. But Li, I’m so tired of fighting. Just because I’m a foreigner and don’t speak much Spanish — it doesn’t mean people should treat me rudely.

Is this how you often felt, Li? Not treated with respect, as if you weren’t even a human being? Sometimes it feels like the world is spinning out of control — like we’re just numbers in a system, not people with hearts and lives, if you get my drift.

I think of you a lot when I feel this. How you tried to show kindness, how you wanted to be seen for who you really were. It breaks my heart that you so often weren’t.
